The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) says it has not banned the Kobi Rana directed film ‘Freedom and Justice.’
In a press statement posted on its Facebook platform, the Authority said it was only enforcing the President’s directive when it prohibited the premiere of the movie.
The Authority stated that the President was clear in his 20th Covid-19 address when he said the cinemas are to remain closed.
Allowing the movie producers to premiere ‘Freedom and Justice’ will be going against the directives and also help in the spread of Covid-19, the statement sighted by JoyNews read.
“The Ghana Tourism Authority, which is the regulatory agency mandated by law under the Tourism Act, to regulate these tourism facilities (beaches, cinemas, movie houses and nightclubs) is enforcing the directives of the President.”
“Cinema, beach and night club operators have all been part of the ongoing stakeholder engagements with the National Covid-19 Task Force,” it added.
This comes after the decision to prohibit the premiere went viral on social media. Many people associated GTA’s reaction to the content of the movie.
They claimed the Authority stopped the premiere because of the content.
The story which is set somewhere in Africa shows a government conference that is being attacked by a group of young citizens. They hold the ministers and media hostage, asking for accountability live on national television.
However, GTA has denied the allegations that they had issues with the movie and its content.
